FUNERAL OPTIONS:

  • Traditional Funeral Service:  Although now-a-days there is so much variety offered with funeral services, it is hard to classify a service as "Traditional".  However, to most of the community we serve, it is defined as an evening vitiation at the funeral home, where family and friends gather to honor the deceased and share their memories. This is typically followed by a church mass the following day with burial or entombment in a local cemetery.

Customized Funeral Service Options: May We Suggest?

  • Catering of food and beverage upon request at the Funeral Homes or one of your choice.
  • A pianist, organist, soloist or quartet to perform during the service
  • A harpist playing in the background during the visitation
  • A Bagpiper at the Funeral Service or place of final resting place
  • A Horse-drawn Hearse and Livery Coachman
  • A Memorial Release of Doves
  • Cremation Ark

CREMATION:

Cremation itself is not classified as a funeral service but rather a choice for final disposition, as opposed to burial or entombment.  Many people believe that at the time of death only two basic choices exist:  immediate cremation of the body or the complete “traditional” funeral, including viewing and followed by a burial.  In fact, several options are available in between for those who prefer cremation. Cremation and burial/entombment are choices for final disposition of the deceased and are, as such, just one part of the funeral service.

Cremation is the process of reducing the body to its basic elements through the application of intense heat and evaporation.  This normally takes 2 to 3 hours and occurs in a special type of furnace called a cremation chamber or retort.  The remaining fragments, consisting mainly of bone, are then processed into a finer substance, similar to sand.  The remains are then returned to the family after being transferred to an urn for permanent containment or place in a temporary container for scattering at sea or planting in a garden.

REPATRIATION:

In this international community, the families we serve long to have their relatives laid to rest in their mother country, along side the multiple generations of dearly departed.  Repatriation is a service that most funeral homes in the area don’t offer or encourage because of the stringent security requirements involved.  Since the tragedies of September 11, 2001, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), part of the Department of Homeland Security; have implemented strict security measures making the repatriation of loved ones more difficult, time consuming and costly for families.

Ferdinand Funeral Homes & Crematory is the only funeral home in Miami-Dade County to be certified as an "Approved Certified Cargo Screening Facility". We earned our Certification in November 2010, after rigid and thorough investigation by the Department of Homeland Security.  This certification provides us the ability to complete the repatriation process without having to contract a third party, saving families time and money and giving them peace of mind that their loved one is secure.

We have developed relationships with most of the consulates in the area and have the experience and knowledge to offer repatriation services without hesitation.  We coordinate;

  • Domestic and International Transportation
  • Consulate Paperwork
  • Shipping Supplies
  • Expedited US Customs Processing
